New World: Tips for Progressing as a Mid-Level Player

I recently acquired New World following the expansion’s release and have managed to reach around level 45. While I’ve delved into some beginner guides, I’m now seeking suggestions and tips for players who have grasped the basics, yet are still leveling and have room to grow. What are some valuable insights that, in hindsight, you wish you had known earlier in your journey?

Here are some of the questions and considerations that reflect my current level of knowledge:

  • I’ve been investing most of my attribute points in dexterity (with a bit of constitution) and leveling up weapons associated with those attributes, most of which are at around level 10. When does it become sensible to start leveling focus, intelligence, or strength weapons? I’m concerned that trying to tackle endgame content with low-level weapons may hinder group play, but I’m also reluctant to frequently respec during the leveling process.
  • I’ve opted for a medium equipment load, as it seems like a balanced choice, but I’m uncertain about the ideal loadout.
  • My main goal is to complete the primary quest, but I’m often distracted by casual gathering, nearby side quests, and faction missions, making it challenging to determine what I should prioritize.
  • I’ve heard that reaching 200 in crafting skills unlocks daily crafting materials. Should I aim to achieve this milestone early on to access these daily materials? Are there any other objectives I should focus on sooner rather than later?
  • Is it feasible to tackle all the side quests eventually and gather all the scattered pages in the world? The completionist in me is tempted to undertake these tasks at some point.
  • New World Gold is important, please use with caution. Of course, if you learn how to make more gold, you can ignore what I said.

In response to the advice of “just have fun and play the game as you want,” I want to emphasize that I am enjoying the game. However, I sense there is a gap between “new player guides” and “endgame meta,” and I’d greatly appreciate any advice that bridges that gap for players like me.

Thank you!
